Food of the Wehrmacht: Rations

Eiserne Portion (Iron Ration)

The absolute basic ration pack for the German Landser contained several Wehrmacht ration basics, and was known as the "Eiserne Portion" (Iron Ration).

This included:

1 Can of Fleischkonserve (similar to Spam but a bit greasier in consistency), weighing 300 grams.

1 Pack (125 gram) of Hartzwieback Bread

OF NOTE: Due to supply situations in war-time Germany, Bread components may have included not only Hartzwieback,, but also Knäckebrot or Hartkeks!

1 Pack of Caramels

in the plain Wehrmacht outer wrapper.

(50 gram)

1 Pack of Zitronendrops (20 gram)

in the buff WH pack

1 Pack of Bohnenkaffee

(Real bean coffee)-30 gram.

1 Pack of Linde Ersatz Kaffee (20 gram)

This was the issue that was carried and was only eaten upon direct orders from the NCO or CO. It was the survival ration.

Then there was the Feld Rationen (Field Rations)
