Panzergrenadier Division GroßDeutschland was one of Germanies most famed units of the Second World War. Formed through the expansion of the Infanterie Regiment (Motorised) Großdeutschland in 1942, the Division soon earned its reputation through its tenacity and fighting ability on the Eastern Front - rising to become one of Germanies elite units. Whether on the attack or in defence, the Panzergrenadier Division Großdeutschland cut through the Red Army - to the point that the Soviets often diverted major offensives away from areas occupied by the Division. Nevertheless, the units ‘fire-brigade’ status on the Eastern Front claimed a massive tole in casualties, as the men of the GroßDeutschland faced terrific hardship in the face of ever growing opposition. Despite this, the Division boasted a large number of foreign volunteers from all over occupied Europe - boosting the strength of the unit to twice that of an average Division.
GD 2nd Kompanie Panzergrenadier Division GroßDeutschland is a non-politically motivated living-history group, aimed at portraying the every-day combat Landser (Soldier) of the Wehrmacht. As such, our members wear historically accurate uniforms and insignia, operate authentic or original vehicles, weaponry and equipment, and research the “day-to-day” life of the German Soldier on operations. Further, whilst we enjoy our hobby, the aim of the group is to inform and educate the public about the human cost of National Socialism - not only upon those who it persecuted, but upon the common Wehrmacht Soldier, who fought like many soldiers have in history, not for political ideals, but for his comrades. Continuing, GD 2nd Kompanie PanzerGrenadier Division (living-history group) have been fortunate to appear in several televised documentaries, and have worked for prestigious Heritage organisations such as The Royal Armouries (Leeds), English Heritage, and Great Central Railways - with connections and in-sight into various Heritage groups and businesses.
